Fraud Protection Tools

Credit cards provide the strongest and most versatile method of accepting payment over the Internet. The element of risk involved in dealing with remote customers can be mitigated by making use of our Fraud Protection Tools.
Address Verification Services (AVS) – Canadian & U.S.
Verifying the cardholder's address can help to fight fraud since perpetrators are unlikely to have this information.
Canadian AVS
- available for most Canadian personal credit cards, including VISA, MasterCard and American Express; not supported for commercial or business cards
- compares your customer's “bill to” address against Canadian credit information
- supports the verification of full name and address
U.S. AVS
- available for U.S. VISA, MasterCard and American Express cards
- compares the street number and zip code provided by your customer to the cardholder’s credit card statement address
CVV2 / CVC2 / CID Check
- CVV2/CVC2/CID are verification codes that are printed on the front or back of credit cards
- verification codes are not embossed on the card or encoded on the magnetic stripe
- CVV2/CVC2/CID are used to verify that a customer purchasing online or over the phone has the credit card in hand
Merchant Control Filters / Velocity Checking
- provides the option to define a maximum amount for purchases
- controls the number of times and maximum dollar value that a credit card can be used for within a given period of time
Card Blocking
- based on previous experience with a customer, you may decide not to accept their credit card even though the card may be legitimate and valid
- a "contra table" holds a list of all credit card numbers that your business has identified as being "unwelcome"
Verified by VISA® / SecureCode™
- initiatives introduced by the card associations to strengthen the cardholder authentication process for Internet based transactions
- designed to reduce the number of disputed transactions referred to as “charge-backs”
- VISA's service is known as Verified By VISA®, MasterCard's service is SecureCode™
- service allows cardholders to register their credit cards with their issuing bank and setup a password to be used when shopping over the Internet
- merchant liability is passed onto the issuing banks so your business can take orders from these customers without fear of fraud or charge-backs
